Choosing toys by age

The right toy for every age, 0–12 years.

The right toy at the right age gets played with. Here's the quick policy by stage.

Quick reference - 0–1: sensory play — soft, washable, high-contrast; nothing with small detachable parts. - 1–2: cause and effect — push, pull, stack, sort; durability beats features. - 3–5: pretend play — dress-up, playsets, art supplies; simple puzzles (12–24 pieces). - 6–8: rules and building — board games, construction sets, science kits. - 9–12: skills and hobbies — robotics, advanced builds, strategy games; let their interests lead.

Safety rules per age - Take under-3 age warnings seriously — they're based on safety testing, not difficulty. - Button batteries are the hidden danger: compartments must need a screwdriver to open; keep spares locked away. - Supervise ride-ons, science kits and anything with projectiles. - Inspect second-hand toys for recalls, broken parts and peeling paint.

Gift cheat sheet - Ask the parents about duplicates and the child's current obsession. - When unsure, art supplies and books never miss. - Keep the receipt and the box until the party is over.
